Take a Second Glance

There are those days when you feel like your dreams are going to finally flourish. You’ve worked hard at putting your ideas together through moments of wonder and inspiration… you might even feel like you’ve done an extraordinary job!

The next day, however, you look at your work and think no, no, no… this is all wrong! You’re not so enthusiastic about your accomplishment anymore.

A few days ago, that’s exactly how I felt. I’d invested a lot of energy into a project, which I thought was pretty amazing, only to realize that it was no longer meeting certain expectations. I quickly convinced myself to forget about it and move on to a new project.

Here I am today, tired, after a long day at work… feeling a little different about my self-inflicted rejection. I think about all those times when I encourage my children, my family, my friends to never give up and wonder why I’m not being that kind of a friend to myself. It’s okay to feel discouraged at certain times and it’s fine to leave a project on hold for a while, but we should never give up too easily, and never make any decisions in haste. It just so happens that your mood can play tricks on you. I suggest waiting a few days, until your feelings are in a better state before deciding to give up. You might realize that you’re satisfied or even enthralled by the work you almost threw away…
